A New Commandment From Yahshua Messiah
Many sincere Christians in this day and age are led to believe that Yahshua Messiah had abolished the previous spiritual Law of Yahweh concerning love when He said: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love another” (John 13:34). Did the Savior Yahshua replace His Father Yahweh’s previous commandments with just this one “new” commandment? Many religious leaders teach and preach that is exactly what He meant. But here’s the problem: Their reasoning does not take into account all that Yahshua said. Interestingly, what He said was not new and He was not introducing a brand-new law! Yahshua merely added some words that Moses could not have written because Yahshua had not yet come. Those new words spoken by Yahshua “even as I have loved you” refers very specifically to the perfect example of love He had set for His disciples. His example raised the bar of loving character higher than it had ever been before. These religious people misunderstand what Yahshua said and meant. The Old Testaments of the Bible already teach that we should love each other (Leviticus 19:18). Yahshua was not introducing a new religious principle. He only re-enforces what love means to His genuine disciples!
We are blessed that this world has a perfect model of the love of Yahweh in Yahshua’s perfect example of loving obedience. Yahshua Messiah came as the light of the world to illuminate the application and practice of the royal law of love. Yahshua the Messiah loved all to the point that He gave His own life for us. Notice where He said: “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends” (John 15:13). But Yahshua also illustrated through His example that love and obedience must go together! Again, notice what He said: “If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love” (John 15:10). We are able to fulfill Yahshua’s new commandment when we love each other to the same extent He did by being willing to lay down our lives for others’ sake. That is the kind of love that Yahshua Messiah wants the true Christians to practice from the heart. Love must be permanent and genuine. True love isn’t superficial and it’s not temporary! Almighty Yahweh is love (1 John 4:8; 1 John 4:16).
But how can we genuinely demonstrate our love to one another using Yahshua Messiah’s new commandment? The following Bible passages will guide you on the right path to loving others. Here’s how the Bible defines love: “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails” (1 Corinthians 13:4-8). Do you have the Holy Spirit of Yahweh which is the Spirit of Yahshua Messiah? Notice: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control” (Galatians 5:22-23). Doing the opposite things on these sacred words is certainly not in accord to the spirit and love and the new commandment from Yahshua Messiah.
The true picture revealed in the prophecy is that Yahshua Messiah would endure suffering and death for the sins of mankind. The death of Yahshua was the offering for sin once and for all (Hebrews 10:12). Both Almighty Father Yahweh and Master Yahshua demonstrated their greatest love for all humankind through this very famous Bible passage: “For Yahweh so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For Yahweh did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved” (John 3:16-17). This kind of love was so powerful. Do we grasp it? Without experiencing the love of Yahweh expressed in the death of Yahshua, we would have no compelling reason to love others. Without coming to the realization that Yahshua the Messiah died for each of us personally and individually, we could not be convicted of our personal sins to the point we would never want to sin again. Almighty Yahweh’s plan for Yahshua Messiah to become a human being and surrender His life and died for all humanity would establish Yahweh’s love without question. The Almighty Yahweh proves His love to us in that while we still were sinners Yahshua died for us (Romans 5:8).
In conclusion, you have to understand this new commandment from the Savior does not free the people of their obligation to fully obey Yahweh’s laws! Yahshua’s “new” commandment does not in any way supersede the Ten Commandments and replace all other biblical laws! Yahshua clearly demonstrated this when He said: “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets, I did not come to destroy but to fulfill” (Matthew 5:17). Yahshua did not introduce love as a new principle. That was already in the Bible and a fundamental part of Yahweh’s instruction to ancient Israel. What was “new” was His own example of love! We comply with Yahshua’s “new” commandment when we obey every commandment of Yahweh in a genuinely loving manner and are willing to lay down our lives for the sake of others, not ourselves! That is the exact point Yahshua was making in His “new” commandment. As true Christians this is the kind of love that our Master, our Redeemer, and our King teaches us and wants us to practice from our hearts and minds. This new commandment from Yahshua Messiah has ties already to the old commandments. The true disciples in biblical times obeyed it and we’re all commanded by both Almighty Yahweh and our Savior Yahshua to obey it also. May the Spirit of Yahweh and Yahshua be with you. Love and peace. Shalom, Halleluyah!
